What a great day it was today. Our church had a baptism at 50 Point Conservation Area. We had our service first then walked down to the lake where the 10 candidates were baptized. I'll tell you one thing.. I wouldn't want to be in that lake.. too doggone cold for me!! There were a few shivers today too lol.
Here are a few of the pictures from today.

A few of the ice cubes.. I mean.. candidates, being baptized. Poor
Pastor Rick was in the water the whole time.

Tonight the girls got babysitters & the 7 of us went out for dinner & a movie. We went to the Fool & Flagon. Great food!!! Even better company. We tried to get over for the early movie at 8 but they were sold out by then. We didn't have long to wait for the next time slot though. We saw Pirates of the Caribbean, World's End. Good movie, but I think the first one was still the best.

Here we all are at the Fool & Flagon.

I got a surprise delivery this afternoon.
Today is our 37th wedding anniversary. We met July 13, 1968 at my brother's wedding, & have been together ever since. We have had our ups & downs, (mostly ups) raised 3 children & have the privilege of seeing our 5 grandchildren often. Unfortunately we have a small group meeting tonight so we won't be able to do much today to celebrate, but we will do something special as soon as we have a spare moment. Hard to do when we are in the middle of redecorating & remodeling etc. However, no matter what we are doing or where we are, as long as we are together it's special.

Brianna's rose buds have opened up. beautiful blooms.

This is another of the perennials I have in my garden, but I can't remember what it is called. Anyone know?
In the past few days, things have bloomed in the garden. The buds on the catalpa trees have opened to reveal these lovely white flowers. Inside the flowers are purple stripes. The flowers will probably last about a week or two before dying off & forming long seed pods. I already have
a couple of new trees growing lol.. anyone want one?

This is the catalpa blossom

Zachary's catalpa tree is doing very well now. We weren't sure it was going to survive at first. We have 2 catalpa trees in our back yard. One has been in the garden for a few years. The other one, which we were given at the same time as the bigger one, was left in a pot for someone else to have. When they didn't take it after a year, we decided to put this dead looking twig in the ground & see what happens. Amazingly, it started to grow & we transplanted it when it was about 18" high to where it is now about 2 yrs ago. The result you can see at the right. It is already providing us with some great shade!

This is Brianna's rose bush. None of the buds have opened yet but the bush is loaded with them. I think we will have blooms in a day or two.

Although Sarah's rose bush is also a pink colour, it isn't quite the same shade. There aren't as many buds on this bush, but there are a couple that have opened already & they are beautiful.

This lovely mini rose bush is in Paige's honour. I was so pleased to see how well it is doing this spring. It is loaded with buds & a lot have opened already. A gorgeous addition to the garden. Red is my favourite colour. Of course I just HAD to have some red in my garden lol

Chloe's rose bush was the last one planted. I love how it brightens up the garden with it's sunny yellow colour.

Here is what the rest of my garden looks like... so far...

Zachary & Sarah enjoyed playing in the yard... especially climbing on the deck railing. Don't fall into my garden!!

After physio today I went up to see Mom. She was still in emergency so they could monitor her more closely. While I was there, she went for further x-rays & then was moved upstairs to a ward. Hopefully she will be able to get a decent nights sleep tonight, although, as she said, it was very interesting in emergency watching all the comings & goings lol
My mom is in hospital again. Apparently both she & dad were not well last week. Crazy but they didn't let anyone know. Mom did laundry on Sunday so I guess she was feeling somewhat better, but Monday afternoon/night she started not feeling well at all. (I get conflicting reports from them) Dad says that Mom tried to call me, but I didn't answer the phone & she got "down" because I didn't call her back. I was at physio at the time & since she didn't leave a message on the phone I didn't know she had called. grrrrrr!!! When she's home again I think I'm gonna have to tell her off for not leaving me a message.

I had an appointment with my dermatologist yesterday morning when Dad called on my cell phone saying mom was not feeling well & could I come over. I knew she must have been pretty sick if Dad was asking for me to go there. I had to wait until after my appt. Thank goodness the dr. wasn't overly long for a change.

I could hear Mom breathing from the door to their bedroom. My only decision was, do I call 911 for an ambulance or do I just take her straight to emergency. Once again I asked Dad why didn't he call 911 or at least call their doctor & once again he said Mom wouldn't let him. I didn't give her an option! Since she was so ill & I was pretty sure she wouldn't be able to walk very far, I called for the ambulance. When they arrived they put her on oxygen immediately. I'm glad I did call for the ambulance now & not try to get her to emergency myself.

The emergency departments of our hospitals are really busy. I don't think their waiting room got to 1/2 full the entire time we were there. It took a while before a doctor got to see Mom. I know there must have been some who needed him before Mom, but it still seemed like forever, but in fact was about 2 hrs. Mom was being watched & cared for by the nurses & she was on the oxygen, so it isn't like she was being totally ignored. When the doctor finally came in, he ordered chest x-rays of course, & she was given a nebulizer to help with her breathing. (which was better since she was on the oxygen).

While waiting for the doctor to see her, I found out that Mom had also lost her balance Monday night & hit her head hard on the doorjamb. I mentioned that to the doctor & the fact that she had a headache since the fall. Because she is on coumadin, & she hit her head pretty hard, he said she needed a CT scan too.

Around 7:30, Mom was moved to a different area in emergency. Dad & I had been with Mom all the time except for a quick lunch around 3:00, & the odd potty break. We were in the new room for probably an hour when a different nurse told us that only 1 person was allowed in at a time. Funny that we had been there for around 9 hours & this was the first we'd been told that. I think it was because there was another lady there & her visitors were coming 2, 3 4 or more at a time! Hard to tell them only 1 person at a time when someone else has 2.

Needless to say, x-rays, blood tests, CT scans all take time. More so when the doctor forgets to order the CT scan. Good thing we mentioned it to the nurse because she made sure it was ordered. As it turned out, there was a further mix-up & somehow or other, the order for the CT scan didn't get seen by the x-ray dept. Mom finally had it around 9 pm!

When Mom was moved, her new nurse came in to check on her. She started asking Mom some questions... such as.. do you know where you are --- yes, in a hospital. do you know the name of the hospital... no... (I don't think she was told which one she was in lol) what was the year... 1993... month? ... she worked it out & said April... day? nope (NCIS is on tonight) oh.. then it's Tuesday lol. date of birth? ... she got it right.. other questions that she didn't answer well. When questioned like that she gets very confused. But that's not from hitting her head... she has been getting more confused over the past year.

Thankfully the x-rays & CT scan were clear. The 2nd doctor (1st was off duty by now) came in to talk with Mom & he says that he wants her to stay in hospital for at least 24 hrs. Dad & I could finally go home... it was midnight & we had been at the hospital about 13 hrs.

Dad heard from the hospital today. They are keeping Mom in for another day (maybe more). I'm not sure if it's because of her breathing or if it's something else. Dad has gone to be with her. I have physio again this afternoon, so I'll try to get up there after that. I might find out more when I get there... who knows.

Happy 4th Birthday Paige.

Paige had two birthday parties today. The first one started around 10:30 & all her little friends were in attendance. She had a "safari" theme & from what I've heard, the kids loved it!

The second one started at 5:00 this evening & almost all of her family came. We had a great time visiting & enjoying the kids. Again there was the "safari" theme. The children had to go on a safari & find "jewels" & play a couple of games, such as "pin the tail on the zebra" (funny looking zebra too)

Looking for "jewels"

Caterpillar Marshall about to devour defenseless Chloe.

The girls enjoying the swings etc.

Some of Paige's guests... Grandma & Grandpa Bucek with Sarah..... Marshall, Chloe & Richard

Richard & Andrea Bucek.....

and a rare moment for Grampa Martin with Chloe on his lap.

Wonder what's in this present?

Cake time... YUMMY!!!

After cake time, Paige got dressed up in one of her presents ... a new dress-up dress. Sarah & Brianna borrowed a couple of other outfits to get dressed up in while Chloe enjoyed sitting in another of Paige's presents, a new chair. She insisted on cuddling these 2 monkeys & her baby, although she did have some problems holding onto baby lol

After everyone else had left, & Chloe was sound asleep, Paige got ready for bed & it was story time. She lasted through the story, but I don't think it was long before she was sound asleep too.

It was a great party & I'm sure everyone enjoyed it too.

Happy birthday Paige... love you bunches!

APPLIANCES!!

In the past 2 months we've had a few breakdowns. First it was the dryer. (I have a stackable washer/dryer) Fortunately for me, Chris was still living in an apartment & I took my laundry over there & got all of it done in less than 2 hours!! Finally got the serviceman in to check it out & it was the blower. He replaced the part & over $100 later I had my dryer working once again. The next day I went to do the laundry & the washer wouldn't work!!! The water went in, but that's as far as it got! Called the serviceman back & he couldn't come until Monday & this was Thursday! OH BROTHER! He checked it out & found out that a wire had come off when he was here to fix the dryer, & it blew the switch. Here we go again! He didn't have the part for it so he had to come back the next day. It's now working well.

It couldn't have been more than a couple of days later when Tom discovered water in the basement. It was dripping from the ceiling & was on my sewing desk & floor. (the desk has been damaged, but not enough to stop me from using it) So where was this water coming from? The fridge! We have the kind that has an ice maker & water dispenser. Called the serviceman again... same guy comes... he sure know the way to my house now! It was the tube that leads from the water pipe into the ice maker that had frozen solid & the water was being forced out of the pipe at the joint. We had to turn off the fridge for 24 hrs to allow all the ice to melt. What a mess! Thank goodness the weather had turned cold & we had our super large fridge, commonly called a garage, to keep all the food cold. After 24 hrs everything had thawed & dried out so we could start it up again. At least there were no leaks, but the water kept flowing into the ice maker & overfilled it... all over the inside of the freezer! NOW WHAT?? Tom figured it out... it was the solonoid (sp?) Probably burned out when the tube was frozen & we didn't know it. It took a few days to get the part & then Tom installed it. GREAT!! things seem to be working fine now. UNTIL.... we went to get a drink of water... & that wouldn't stop... we had to turn everything off again... couldn't figure out what was wrong so turned it back on.. & it's working fine!! so what caused the water to run like it did we don't know... lol

We think it had been leaking for a long time before it finally found its way through the basement ceiling because now the floor around the fridge is mushy. This means that we now have to replace the sub floor under & around the fridge. If it doesn't rain it pours. Thank goodness we were planning on replacing the tiles in the kitchen anyway, but we weren't planning on replacing the sub floor too.

My dishwasher has a very minor leak... off & on. We can't figure out where it's leaking from .. there doesn't seem to be a problem & it isn't leaking all the time.... arrrrgh!!!

I think we've had enough fun & excitement to last us for a while... don't you? lol

Happy Birthday Tom!

We made sure a lot of people at church knew it was Tom's birthday today.... hehehehe

After church, we went to the Village Restaurant for lunch. This time I remembered my camera & captured a couple of special moments of Tom with a couple of his girls.

Don & Zachary were in a bowling tournament so couldn't come. They won their tournament & now qualify for the provincials. Way to go Don & Zachary!!

It's Tom's birthday on Sunday. Carolynn, Marshall & family won't be able to get together with us then, so we went to their house tonight instead & had dessert with them. We had a great time with Paige & Chloe before they had to go to bed. Afterwards, we played Stock Ticker with them. (not sure that's the correct name of the game). We had a lot of laughs with the game. Marshall was the winner.. which we knew almost from the beginning. Maybe he should try the real stock market... or maybe not... lol

I'm kicking myself for not taking my camera with me. Now I have no pictures to show!!

Happy Easter... we enjoyed having the family over after church for a pot luck Easter Sunday dinner. So much fun watching the children playing & interacting with each other.

I know... it's about time I posted again lol. To tell you the truth I have been occupied with my new external hard drive, scanning in pictures. I asked for the hard drive for Christmas so that I can store & access my pictures whenever I wanted them. I don't have a lot of room on my computer for pictures & using cd's is a nuisance, trying to figure out which cd has what picture, not to mention the number of cd's I'd need! Once I have all the pictures redone, I will back them up on cd's to be kept safely elsewhere.

I am still going to physio-therapy 3 times a week. Finally seeing improvement & feeling it too. It sure has taken a long time, but as my therapist said, it was a very long time that I could not use that knee properly so I couldn't expect a fast recovery.

On Thursdays I go over to Mom's & take her out for lunch. We are then going through all her old photos, trying to figure out when they were taken & who some of the people are in the pictures. Just a note to everyone. Put a date on your photos & name the people in them. You might know who they are & when now, but give it 10 or 15 years or longer & memory fades a little. Be sure to write with either a pencil or an acid free pen though. I have scanned in quite a few of the older pictures my mom has, including her parent's wedding photo. Believe it or not, Mom could name most of the people in it! This has been a fun time.

I'm trying to get my family tree completed. Following my grandfather, John Henry Gregory's side, I have back to my great-great-great grandfather/grandmother Gregory, & her parents, my great-great-great-great grandmother/grandfather Pugh, & following John Henry's mother's side I have back to my great-great grandfather/grandmother Perry. On my grandmother's, Elsie Mildred's side, I have it back to my great-great grandmother/grandfather Wright.

There are a few holes in my information though. Especially where my aunts, uncles, cousins are concerned, so if any of you have information, please send it to me. What I need are: date of birth, Christening, marriage, death, divorce, children, names of spouses & all dates for them too.(even partial dates are helpful) Even if I already have the information, it would be a confirmation for me if I got them from a secondary source. If anyone else is interested in what I have, let me know & I will get it to you too. If you have my email, you can send it to me that way, if you don't have mine but know a family member who does have it, you can get it from them lol sounds confusing doesn't it?
